The government of Brazil will invest US$25 billion to provide 20,000 MW of renewable-energy capacity to the 20 million rural inhabitants who are not connected to the power grid. The program was identified last year as a government priority for the country’s development. On August 11, the government will unveil its plan to accelerate the development of renewable energy in an sustainable manner, for community schools, health centres, water pumping, irrigation, and street lighting. To realise the program, the Brazilian government is seeking potential partners nationally and internationally.
