The
International Network
for Sustainable Energy
Climate Change Mitigation
on the way to Sustainability in Romania,
10-11 September, 2009, Ibis Nord Hotel, Bucharest
The event
gathered more than 100 people from very various areas: representatives
of the
Ministries of Environment, Education,
Industry,
National Energy Agency, National Environment Agency, business, environmental
NGOs, the Ambassador of Danish Kingdom, the Ambassador
of United Kingdom of Great Britain and North Ireland, the Secretary of
the Swedish Embassy, Romanian MPs from EU Parliament, many other representatives
of the international organizations, networks, and
of mass media representatives.
The conference's aim was to facilitate debate and to identify opportunities
regarding climate change mitigation in Romania, before the Conference of
Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC)
takes place in Copenhagen. Our event succeeded to gather representatives
of civil
society organizations (national and European ones), local and central public
administration institutions, the Romanian and European Parliament, the
business sector and the members of the European Economic and Social Committee.
The event included thematic workshops on sectors related to climate change
mitigation: energy, transport, waste, agriculture, forestry and education.
One of the outputs of the conference will be a report regarding the potential
and opportunities in greenhouse gas emissions’ reduction in Romania,
which is intended to support Romanian decision makers’ commitment
to an ambitious agreement in Copenhagen.
The event was organized in cooperation with Prietenii Pamantului (Earth
Friends) Romania, and RAC-RO.
